Since most Lutherans are baptized as infants, it is a rare treat to see an adult baptism. However, last Sunday I saw just that. As much as I love to see children being baptized, there is something different when it is an adult. Perhaps it is watching that adult lean over the batismal font. Maybe it is hearing them make the promises of baptism for themselves. I think it even places a reframed responsibility on the congregation. The newly baptized can hear us promise to help him study the Bible and grow in faith. It is good to know that there are still adults among us who are casting off the old self in exchange for a life of faith.
