They just don't get it

The synod's newsletter arrived yesterday, I shed a tear. Let me explain:

Included in the newsletter was some basic demographic information for the synod.
church size #
175 for less 50
176-350 72
351-500 35
501-700 27
701-950 17
951-1500 9
over 1500 3

What you will likely notice by looking at these numbers is that the vast majority of congregations in the synod are rather small, likely with limited resources. On the next page of the newsletter, there was a special section devoted to "10 Guidelines for a successful capital fund drive." Exactly how useful is that information? Honestly, how many of the churches in the synod are going to be able to make use of that? There is no harm in telling us about it, but how about some info that would be useful to the smaller churches. In my search for such information, I came across some information on stewardship. Ok, there is some hope in this. No. Now they would like members of individual congregations to buy stock through the ELCA and then they will distribute the dividends to the ministries that you designate. They also suggest that church leaders stress the importance of remembering the church in wills and estate planning.

I don't think that it is too much to ask for the synod to be in touch with the needs of the local congregations. So many congregations are in the same scenario, wouldn't it be a good stewardship of the synod's resources to work on some of these issues?
