I came across an interesting fact today. Since the inception of the Billboard music charts no song has been ranked number one without using a guitar. Ben Folds came close, but it just hasn't been done. (One small caviat, I am not sure about the last few years with the rise in hip-hop) Then, just like always, I got thinking about how this applies to the church.
It seems that the guitar and the sort of music that it is used to make has a certain alure. Are we as a church missing something? Is the culture changing around us so quickly that we don't even use contemporary instruments? I like the organ as much as anyone, but I just don't think it connects with people in the same way that a guitar does.
